ögonblick
Ögonblick is a collaboration with David Stiernholm. David is a composer and multi-instrumentalist who lives in Göteborg, Sweden. David plays a variety of traditional instruments; oboe, nyckelharpa, soprano saxophone, whistles, musical box, glockenspiel, trumpet, accordeon, guitar, bottles, zither and sings.
We create music based on what we call ‘embryos’, short ideas for tracks, or pieces of tracks, that are exchanged via the internet. We then add extra parts or sections before returning the files. Upon receiving the returned tracks, we may add, change or remove sections or parts. When we feel it is complete, it is! Usually we have 2 or 3 embryos in development at any one point in time.
Despite the asyncrhonous nature of working via the internet, creation of the Ögonblick tracks is driven by spontaneity – drawing intuitively from our many influences. But Ögonblick is not just about experimentation for the sake of experimentation. We are seeking to create lyrical, memorable pieces of music that are spirited and enjoyable.
In Swedish, ‘ögon’ means ‘eyes’ and ‘blick’ means ‘gaze’ or ‘glance’. An ögonblick is the amount of time it takes for an eye to gaze, which is really an instant. Our tracks are like snapshots of different ögonblicks; miniature soundscapes that have their own sounds, harmonies, colours, shapes. The plural form of ögonblick is also ögonblick, it can mean one as well as many.
The plan is to complete an EP or album at some point and get it 'out there' in the folk-tronica crossover arena.
There are some demos on a MySpace page ... which we really should spend more time looking after ;)
