Salary Man
Salary Man is a 14 track album, released under the name Avon, in 2004, as a joint project between Karvavena Records and Iris Light Records.
Salary Man got great reviews when it came out. I did a live performance on Nick Luscombe's show Flomotion on XFM in London and it charted numersous weeks on student radio in British Columbia, Canada - how that happened is a mystery to me, but once I thought about emigrating to Canada.
"lush beats and cinematic soundscapes", The Big Chill.
"dreamy, borderline sleaze", Electronic Music.
"beautifully moody", Untitled Music.
"Great to chill out to, to drive to, to wake up to", Decode.
"resolutely trip-hop and down-tempo, with shades of jazz, and clearly demonstrating Avon’s undisputed talent in both composition and production", Trip-Hop/Electro-Trip.
"slinky, trip-hoppy electronica balancing esoteric sound-sculpting with swaying melodies", Venue.
Salary Man features collaborations with Paul Ramos and Vicky Burley. Previously Vicky and I had recorded some demos under the name 'Easter Island' having been in a loose six piece jazz/funk outfit called Free State. Paul and I had recorded demos under the name "Central" which we gigged regularly around Bristol and London with drummer Adam Smith. Central got a sniff of interest from a major label at the time but nothing came of it.
